The floating Delectation

IPS officer and artist Ajay Choudhury comes up with a site-specific artwork. The installation includes assemblage of a thousand assorted two to three foot air balls at the Riverfront area of the Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad. The Air balls are to be installed floating over the river stretch with an assorted placement of colour scheme. The installation aims at delivering a cheerful visual pleasure for the people. As the world recovers from a pandemic and lockdown, it is hard to forget the harsh effects and difficulties it has had in various aspects of life. As life functions back to normality, the cycle of economics and labor overshadows the beauty of an artwork. Here, the artist attempts to bring the art out to nature so every passerby can take a moment to experience a visual joy. He has indulged in various installation work projects. The purpose of this installation is to bring hope and brightness from the dark phase of the pandemic and lead towards a cheerful and bright future. For weeks, the work could be admired from the river, sky and land.

He also intends to tribute the famous Land artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude whose works he has highly admired and taken inspiration from.. The couple worked with large scale installations at public spaces to connect the spectator to art. 

Environment art or Land artwork advanced in the Nineteen Seventies and drew proposals from each nature and its raw materials. The artist positioned a harmonically or objectively constructed work  and area it in astonishing length or quantity.  Christo and Jeanne-Claude had been well-known Land artists.

They laboured with big scale works of artwork. They normally used fabric to create forms that interacted with the already present environment, for instance wrapping monumental buildings or bridges. Artist Ajay Choudhury is a self taught artist. He attracts his inspiration from day by day lifestyles. He works in abstract themes and experimental works. A sound set up titled, Crochet of Emotions is the quantity of his brilliant works. He has participated in several organisation projects which includes ‘1x1 India ‘Group Show at Taj Mahal Hotel, Mumbai in 2009, ‘Mridgandha’, Faculty of Fine Arts, M. S University, Baroda in 2007.‘ A Stroke with Square’, a 22 mints documentary made on summary paintings of Ajay Choudhary. This movie was shown at Morocco International  movie festivals, Kerala Film Festival, Calcutta Film Festival etc. He is a life member of Bombay Art Society and Art Society of India. He lives and works in Ahmedabad.
